Recycling Newspapers and Plastic Bags into Knitting Yarn

Posted on February 27, 2009 at 5:00 PM

Yesterday I mentioned that Italian designer, Ivano Vitali, used newspaper yarn in his beautiful design work. His paper yarn designs are out of this world. Who knew that you could create knitted garments and more with paper!

As well, greenupgrader has an interesting step-by-step tutorial on turning newspaper into yarn, if you're keen on trying your hand at it. Nice way to reuse paper. And if paper yarn isn't your thing ....

Look at what you can do with those eco-disasters - plastic bags. Dedri over at Look What I Made, gives a step-by-step tutorial for recycling plastic bags into yarn (called plarn!). Yes! And she's got loads of free patterns for you to make your own plarn creation.

ThisYouTube tutorial also shows you how to recycle plastic bags into plarn. An interesting way to recycle, or I should say upcycle a serious ecological pest.  Your sweaters, bags, rugs, mats, etc. will last for centuries. Heck, you'll even be able to leave them in your will!
